MEET myia
FITNESS COACH

From an early age, sports and fitness have played a significant role in Myia Tinnon’s life, deeply ingrained in her family’s traditions. Raised in a household where her mother was a Physical Education teacher and her siblings pursued degrees in Health, Physical Education, and Kinesiology, Myia developed a strong passion for movement and wellness from a young age.

In 2014, Myia founded Motor-Vation Training, combining her expertise and dedication to inclusivity in fitness. A proud alumna of Jackson State University, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 2003, followed by a Master of Arts in Sports Administration in 2005. By 2007, she had secured her endorsement in Physical Education for students with disabilities, marking the beginning of her commitment to adaptive fitness.

For over two decades, Myia has served as an Adapted Physical Education teacher in Detroit schools, making a profound impact on her students’ lives. Her involvement with Area 26 Special Olympics includes coaching track and field, snowshoeing, and serving as her department's Unified Sports Coordinator. Notably, she spearheaded her district’s first Unified Basketball and Volleyball program and organized various Young Athlete and Teeny Tots initiatives.

The vision for Motor-Vation Training emerged from Myia’s experiences teaching Adapted PE, where she recognized a significant gap in opportunities for children with disabilities to engage in fitness and recreational activities outside of school. Determined to address this disparity, Myia created an inclusive platform that prioritizes functional and basic movement skills for those often overlooked.

Since its inception, Motor-Vation Training has delivered fitness programming across the Metro Detroit area, empowering individuals of all abilities to embrace movement. More than 20 years into her career and a decade since founding Motor-Vation Training, Myia remains steadfast in her mission- to provide accessible, inclusive, and fun fitness + recreational activities that promote physical, social, and emotional well being for those living with disabilities.
